⍚ rites of passage ⍚

It is said that we cycle in years of 7 or 8 depending on our fluctuating states of feminine and masculine qualities. Some of us are late bloomers and some flourish earlier. Seven, is the number accorded to yin dominant bodies. Eight, typically expresses in yang dominant bodies. Within this general framework, we understand that at the turn of a cycle, changes occur. This is the wisdom that comes from centuries of experienced life; the knowledge that is passed on by elders to the young in order to prepare us for the upcoming rites and practices.

…Lessons on spiritual, physical, emotional, creative and even mystical understandings of a process we all go through; growth. When we approach our lives through the lens of these phases, we can prepare for the journey with courage, embodiment and support.

Unfortunately, in our modern times, these initiation teachings have been lost. Will we become the elders to guide our young about our many cycles of birth and rebirth? In which ways can we hold integrity of these rites? Is it important? Where do we start?

It’s my belief that every lineage leads us to the answers. If you are lucky enough to have living grandparents or even great grandparents, I’d encourage an inquiry. They are the crones, the wise ones. Have you heard the stories of their first bleed, journeys into sexuality, pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum practices, pause of menstruation and coming into their second spring? You can also search for wisdom keepers in your community. Seek out gatherings. Book a discovery session here at The Way of Yin.

My guess is that within your search quest, you’ll learn all about how each cycle brings a sort of death and rebirth of the self. And that you are not alone, you are held through the discomforts of change. These rites of passages teach us that we are all connected, not only with each other, but with nature itself. As we persevere through the passages, we gain tools along the way. These tools serve and help us come into each subsequent phase with a bit more ease, grace and acceptance.

I often wonder why these teachings were lost. It’s so apparent that they are vital to our health and well being. How did we become so out of touch? Wherever you are in your journey, it might be a good idea to decipher which cycle you’re in. Then, tell the story of each of your cycles starting from birth. Doing this will give you a good sense of your past and how it’s reflecting in your life today.

We are all unique. Tell your story. Reclaim your rites.
